Underneath it all...

At the heart of any work we do with, for or on the land, be that through nature recovery, agriculture, outdoor education, or anything else within this sphere, is our relationship with the land and the other species we share it with. It colours the choices we make, our priorities and values. It is fundamental to the ways we know and understand the world around us, and even ourselves within it, as individuals, families, communities, organisations and societies.

a call for gentle change

It is becoming increasingly clear, in the light of the changes happening in our world at present, in the ecological and the human spheres, that our hegemonic relationships with land and our co-inhabitants of the Earth are no longer fit for purpose.

It is also becoming increasingly clear, as Rob Hopkins author of From What Is to What If says: "Imagination is the most important thing in the whole wide world". Without imagination we cannot dream. Without dreams, we cannot create a different future.

What would happen, then, if we reimagined how to be in relationship with the land? What could change?

The more ways we know and understand the world around us, the stronger and more resilient our relationships become.

“When we experience nature, we develop a deep senses of empathy and love for nature and when any of us love something we care for it, we conserve it and we protect it.... Love and reverence for the Earth will automatically result in sustainability, coherence and harmony.”
